President Kovind nominated Former CJI Ranjan Gogoi to Rajyasabha

Former CJI Ranjan Gogoi has been nominated to Rajya Sabha by President Ramnath Kovind.
Mr. Gogoi had retired from the post in last November after completing his tenure as Chief Justice of India. The vacancy was created at the end of february month after the retirement of K.T.S Tulsi.



In his tenure of over 13 months, CJI has been a part of many important verdicts, including Rafale deal and Sabarimala case, Ayodhya Mandir being the most crucial among them. Mr. Gogoi headed the five judges bench which gave the verdict in ayodhya conflict ruling in favour of Ram Mandir.

Prime Minster Narendra Modi had praised the judiciary for working in the righteously.
After the notification came from the home ministry f india stating that Mr Ranjan Gogoi has been nominated for Rajya Sabha by President Kovind, the former CJI has been in the news. Various leaders ftro BJP and supporting parties have congratulated him on the feat. However the CJI is also facing some backlash over the social media where people are saying that he has been rewarded with the post for giving biased decisions.

Former Minister of Finance and External Affairs, Mr. Yashwant Sinha has tweeted and called the event as last nail in the coffin of indian judiciary.



A Delhi based journalist, has called out CJI for accepting the Rajya Sabha seat by stating a remark by CJI himself.
